COVID-19 International Arrival

Welcome! This website is for new or returning students arriving from outside of Canada to study at Western University.

All Western, Brescia, Huron and King's University College students arriving from outside of Canada (including international students and Canadian citizens) are required to complete all necessary testing and quarantine requirements and must register their quarantine plan with Western prior to arrival in Canada.

If you are an international student who is eligible to enter Canada and are fully vaccinated with a vaccine approved by the Government of Canada , you may be exempt from select quarantine requirements, but you must still register your travel and quarantine plan with Western

As of November 30, 2021, the list of vaccines approved for possible quarantine exemption includes the following:

  • Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty, tozinameran, BNT162b2)
  • Moderna (Spikevax, mRNA-1273)
  • AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria, COVISHIELD, ChAdOx1-S, AZD1222)
  • Janssen/Johnson & Johnson (Ad26.COV2.S)
  • Bharat Biotech (Covaxin, BBV152 A, B, C)
  • Sinopharm (Beijing) BBIBP-CorV (Vero Cells)
  • Sinovac (CoronaVac, PiCoVacc)

For eligibility information, visit the Government of Canada website.

Requirements for entry to Canada changing on January 15, 2022

As of January 15, 2022, federal requirements will not permit international students who are 18 years or older, who are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated or vaccinated with a vaccine other than the seven types mentioned above, to enter Canada. Therefore, all international or exchange students in this situation MUST plan to arrive in Canada no later than January 14, 2022.

Please note that vaccines approved for  Western University’s vaccination policy may not be federally approved for quarantine exemption. This means you may be required to have additional vaccines upon arrival. See our vaccine FAQ page for details.
