Staff and volunteers at the International and Exchange Student Centre (IESC) are excited to welcome you to Western over the next few weeks. We've put together our Top 5 Steps to help you prepare. Please contact us with any questions. We are here to help!

Sign Up for Orientation Day


International Student Orientation offers a great opportunity to meet new people and learn about life at Western. All new international graduate and visiting research students are encouraged to attend. Registration is required.

Prepare to Come


Ensure you have the following items with you when travelling to Canada:

- Valid Passport and Canadian Temporary Resident Visa or an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) (if applicable)
- Letter of Introduction issued by the Canadian Visa Office that approved your Study Permit* application
- Supporting documents
- Medical and immunization (vaccination) records,  prescriptions and medications
- Money and a credit card
- List of important phone numbers
- Marriage Certififcate

*You must have a valid Study Permit for Postsecondary Studies in Canada before beginning classes at Western. If you are transferring between institutions in Canada, you must notify IRCC via your MyCIC Account (GCKey) online.

Apply for Your Peer Guide


The International Peer Connection program matches new international students with friendly Western students who have already experienced the transition to University life. Peer Guides are dedicated volunteers who help connect new students to the Western community, answer questions and provide support.

Visit SGPS & IESC When You Arrive


International Graduate Students are required to show their study permit in person at the School of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies, first floor, International & Graduate Affairs Building.

Upstairs, on the second floor, IESC staff and volunteers will be available in our Welcome Centre from Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 4 pm between August 26 and September 13. We will answer questions and provide an Orientation Package including details about our services, Western, London, immigration, food, health care and much more!

Explore Programs & Services


With a number of programs and services tailored to your needs, IESC helps you transition to life at Western and supports you during your academic career.

In addition to our main location, we also have an International Student Centre - Social Science in Room 1040, Social Science Centre. Open to international students in the Faculty of Social Science, the centre offers immigration advising, assistance with personal, financial or other questions, and peer support progams.
